When Pam and
John Padilla went to the 2000 Paint World Show, they went as spectators, not as
potential buyers. But a stunning colt,
Tributes Mister, changed that. Visiting
Bob and Joyce Cassata, owners of Double C Acres and three time World Champion
Tribute To Sierra. We saw this
outstanding, large, dark rich chestnut colt.
He had size, quality, and probably one of the best pedigrees that they
had ever seen. John and Pam agreed that
if we ever owned a stallion, this is what they would love to have. The biggest horse in the ring of a class of
fifty-five colts, he was named Reserve World Champion, missing World Champion
by one placing under the last judge. And
it was his first horse show! After
watching him in the ring with his trainer, Terry Sartain, they became even more
enamored with the colt. At the time,
owning him seemed completely out of the question.
On the way back
to Arizona from the World Show, the Padillas discussed Tributes Mister’s attributes. A colt that had the looks of a four-year-old,
his dark rich chestnut coat, highly accented with lots of chrome, four white
stockings, a blazed face, and a large white belly spot, finishing out at 16.2
hands, with the body mass to match.
Mister had tested negative/negative for the HYPP syndrome. He had enough white to cross on Quarter Horse
mares, and testing negative for the lethal white gene, he would safely cross
with ANY Paint mares, with no chance of producing a lethal white foal, even if
the mare carried the lethal white gene.
And now with his AQHA papers in hand, since the excessive white rule
change, this information translated to him being a no-risk breeding venture.
Raising and
showing Quarter Horses, Buckskins, and Palominos, for years, several of whom
have won Register of Merits (ROMs), Superiors in Halter, Honor Roll, and World
Champion titles. Knowing what it takes
to achieve these accolades, Padillas knew Tributes Mister had what it takes to
go all the way to the top. Both his sire
and dam have one of the best Quarter Horse pedigrees in the industry and both
are crop-outs, so his whole pedigree obviously is Quarter Horse.
When the timing
is right, the right things happen. After the
Padillas arrived home from the World Show, a few events worked in their favor,
allowing them to purchase the young stallion.
They had a couple of horses that had been for sale for about a year, and
two people who had looked at them previously had left messages on their
answering machine saying they wanted to buy them. After that, things fell into place, and they
purchased Tributes Mister.
This 1999 Paint
horse’s spectacular pedigree includes the whose who of some of the greatest
Quarter Horses in the industry. He is by
the APHA/AQHA stallion, Tribute To Sierra, a chestnut overo, and out of Causin
Confusion, an APHA/AQHA sorrel overo mare.
Tribute To Sierra is by Sierras Tribute (AQHA) and out of Sheza Lucky
Streak (AQHA). Tributes Mister’s dam is
the great Causin Confusion, which is by Mr. Conclusion (AQHA) and out of the
AQHA mare, Really In Command. Tributes
Mister is the first breeding age colt with a World title by Tribute To Sierra
that was available to the public.
Tribute To
Sierra is a three-time World Champion and a multiple World Champion sire, with
more than one third of his get having World or Reserve World Champion
titles. He has broken more APHA records
doing things that no other horse has done.
His first foal crop took home five World buckles, then Tribute To Sierra
went in the ring and won his third World title.
Causin Confusion is a five-time World Champion mare and a World Champion
producer. And with Causin Confusion now
gone, Mister is the ONLY breeding offspring of these two great
individuals! After going through
years of trials and tribulations of being a mare owners, breeding to stallions
all over the United States,
John and Pam are determined to make breeding to their stallion a positive
experience for themselves and their customers.
The Padilla’s typically, faced situations like the semen was only
collected Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or they would call and find that the
stallion was off at a horse show or that the owner and/or breeding manager was
out of town, and were unable to get semen when their mares were cycling. One or all of those occurrences can make
breeding a very expensive venture. To
avoid situations like that for their customers, Padillas plan to have their
stallion readily available for the mares when they are cycling.
The Padillas
are really looking forward to what the future may bring! Mister has proven himself in the show ring,
and his foals are now proving themselves as well. The breeding fee offers a live foal
guarantee, a full color guarantee on Regular registry Paint mares, and a
limited color guarantee on Breeding stock mares. Breeding services are by artificial
insemination only, from February 1st to July 31st.
Mister is a
very pretty mover and very athletic especially for being labeled a “halter
horse”. He has a beautiful head with a
kind eye. His long pretty neck with a
really clean throat latch, allows a natural carriage that enables him to carry
his head fairly level with his shoulders.
He’s got a great heart, and he tries very hard to please. Mister has consistently sired the big, typie
kind of foals that it takes to be competitive.
His get have sure proven themselves in the futurity pen, with current
winnings in excess of $85,000.
Padillas also
believe a horse should be able to show at halter and then go on into
performance events. The goal is for
Tributes Mister to hopefully someday return to the Paint World Show in Halter,
and maybe venture into the performance ring as well. But they will let “Mister” reveal his yet
developing talents and allow him to show them the best path to go with him in
the show ring.
At the
Padilla’s Desert Haven Ranch in Goodyear, Arizona, the Padillas have
several registered Quarter Horses and Paints and double-registered Buckskins
and Palominos. For the past ten years or
so, they have bred their Quarter Horse mares to Paints. Pam has shown horses through-out the United States for more than twenty-five years. In her
horse career, Pam has had many Buckskin and Quarter Horse ROMs, Superior halter
and Superior performance horses, National
Honor Roll titles, four World Champions, and in 1984 she was the International
Buckskin Queen. John is getting his
amateur card and one day should prove to be a formidable competitor.
The Padilla's pride themselves in breeding and raising nothing but HYPP N/N horses...
